Obituary for Sammie Moten Sr. M

Sammie Moten, Sr., was born to Ira Mae Freeman with the assistance of a midwife on December 29, 1951, in Girard, Georgia. At an early age, he joined Givens Grove Baptist Church and later in life, he became a member of the usher board, where he served faithfully. He was educated through the Burke County Public School System. He joined the United States Army and was active duty for three years. He was in the reserves for 15 years. After the military, he was a police officer with the Richmond County Police Department. His last job was a truck driver and he drove trucks until his health began to fail. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mrs. Ira Mae Freeman; children, Valorie Moten (Anthony Middlebrooks), Inga (Dwaylon) Coleman Sr., Sammie (Thomasina) Moten, Jr., Lawanda Lovett, Shaun (Tabitha) Pierce, Quinton Kirkland and Genera Williams; siblings, Wayne (Kitty) Moten, Sr., of Girard, GA, Shineand Freeman, Sr., of Temple, TX, Bobby Freeman of Temple, TX, Paulette (Tanney) Scurry of Girard, GA, Alonzo (Karen) Freeman of Girard, GA, Joyce Freeman of Waynesboro, GA, Michael Freeman, Sr., of Girard, GA, Jacqueline (Brian) Boyd, Sr., of Atlanta, GA, and Stephanie Freeman of Girard, GA; one aunt, Ida Jones of Savannah, GA; 10 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
