Gussie was born in Emanuel County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Johnny and Endia Steele Quarterman, on October 5, 1944. Gussie transitioned her earthly home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Gussie confessed Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Bell Grove Baptist Church where she held several positions. Later in life, she united with Second Hopeful Missionary Baptist Church in Hephzibah, Georgia, where she severed as a Deaconess. Deaconess Lawson was faithful to her calling as long as she was physically able. Gussie had a passion for sewing and enjoyed taking trips with her family to the beach. She also enjoyed gardening and keeping a beautiful home to go out and sit on her porch and admire her plants and flowers growing. Gussie worked over 20 years as a Health Care Provider which lead up to her starting her own business, Heart to Heart in Home Care LLC. With doing this, she influenced many lives and was always there for others to help better their lives. She had a heart of gold. Gussie was a mother figure to many and which they became extended family. Gussie was preceded in death by her mother; Endia Steele Quarterman, father; Johnny Quarterman and brother; Johnny R. Quarterman and a daughter-in-law; Jeanette Holmes. She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Billy Holmes of Augusta, Georgia, Gloria Holmes of Augusta, Georgia, Tommie Coleman of Hephzibah, Georgia,Christine Holmes of Hephzibah, Georgia, Clarence (Linda) Holmes of Waynesboro, Georgia and Katie (James)Terrell of Hephzibah, Georgia , one sister; Carey (Roosevelt) Rainey, one brother; James (Gloria) Quarterman, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
